Making the Most of It: Black History and British Education

Conference aim: to promote inclusive education which draws upon Black History research and resources, involving parents and community groups as well as teachers and pupils

11.50-13.00 Workshops on Black History in Schools and Education Beyond the Classroom

1. Dan Lyndon: Walter Tull, an Officer, a Footballer and a Gentleman: Teaching Black History in Schools
2. Nikki Taylor and Rachel Silverson: Creating Museum Loan Boxes from the Northampton ethnographic collection (with object-handling session)
3. SuAndi: Acts of Achievement: Black History Month in the North West
4. Melsia Tomlin-Kraftner: Caribbean Ancestral Journey (with exhibition)

9. Lloyd Russell and Beresford Lee: The Walter Tull Awards and the launch of WT supplementary schools in Bristol
10.Caroline Hussey-Bain: Activate! Youth project from Northampton West Indian Community Association (with exhibition and young people’s presentation)
